The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef ecosystem - the marine park covers an area larger than the UK, Holland and Switzerland combined! Sir David Attenborough once said it was a destination that's 'better than travelling to the moon'.

The Sunshine State is Queensland's nickname for good reason! The state boasts over 300 sunny days a year in some regions and between 8 and 9 hours of sunshine every day, not to mention our warm and sunny dispositions 😊

Outback Qld is home to Australia's largest dinosaur hoard. Winton boasts some of the oldest dino footprints in the world from a stampede 95M years ago! Our official fossil emblem - the Muttaburrasaurus - was named after the site it was found in the central west.

The heritage-listed Big Pineapple in Nambour is one of the first "Big Things". Taking our obsession with huge sculptures to new heights, Qld also houses such gems as the Big Cane Toad, Big Gumboot, Big Van Gogh & Big Barramundi, to name a few.

Humpback whales migrate along the Queensland coast from June to November. And the Ribbon Reefs north of Cooktown is the only place in the world where you can swim with Dwarf Minke Whales.

The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest continually surviving rainforest on Earth. At the ripe old age of 130M years, this luscious gathering of plant and animal life is millions of years older than the Amazon and prospers thanks to its continuous rainfall and humid climate.

Six drool-worthy foods named after the Queensland towns in which they are harvested include: Moreton Bay Bugs, Bowen Mangos, Mooloolaba Prawns, Kingaroy Peanuts, Hervey Bay Scallops, Bundy Rum.

Queensland is a gigantic place. It is 7 times the size of Great Britain, nearly 5 times the size of Japan and 2.5 times the size of Texas! If it were its own country, it would rank 18th largest in the world!

Although possibly our most divisive bird, the Australian Ibis was the inspiration for the very first glider by one of the world's greatest aviators, Bert Hinkler. Hinkler photographed the ibis in flight, built a glider and flew over the beaches of Bundaberg in 1912. Best bird ever!

Queensland has a glorious aviation history, seeing the start of the Royal Flying Doctor Service on 17 May 1928 when Dr Kenyon St Vincent Welch - the first flying doctor - was flown from Cloncurry to Julia Creek in response to an emergency call. In addition, Qantas was born in Winton in 1920.
